A total amount of 8,092,000 tons of CCBs were produced while coal was burned to generate electricity during 2006 in the state of Kentucky.
2,715,942 tons were utilized in the creation of industrial products and materials during the same year. Most of the current CCBs are utilized as commodity components by large industries.
Additional research and funding are needed in order to find better ways of utilizing CCBs. The development of consumer products represent a significant marketing opportunity for CCBs since most consumers have already demonstrated a preference for recycled products. CCBs are not readily available in most consumer products, but that is changing.
