World of Coal Ash a Tremendous Success!
Approximately 560 registrants participated at the first World of Coal Ash (WOCA) held in Lexington, Kentucky, April 11-15, 2005. The American Coal Ash Association and the Center for Applied Energy Research at the University of Kentucky combined their respective international symposia to create what many are considering the premier international coal ash conference. Co-sponsored by the US Department of Energy (DOE) and the Office of Surface Mining (OSM), the event attracted persons from 22 countries and included more than forty exhibitors. There were 152 technical and 32 poster presentations and a number of distinguished keynote speakers and guests. DOE hosted an Unburned Carbon Conference in conjunction with WOCA and the OSM conducted a technical interactive forum on the use of CCPs in mining applications. The first Coal Combustion Products Partnership (C2P2) Awards ceremony was also held, in which awards were given to organizations that made significant contributions to the C2P2 initiative. Proceedings and other information about this year's event can be found at www.worldofcoalash.org.
