Abstract:
The CSIRO Coal Preparation Group has been actively involved in improving the capability of the Australian coal industry for over a decade. Initial work explored the development of high capacity unit operations such as Banana screens, cyclones and a novel approach to flotation. These efforts also resulted in some new techniques for on-line monitoring and measuring various aspects of coal preparation unit operations. Some of these research tools, cross correlation flowmeter, screen motion, quantitative screen surface analysis, and measurement of coal and magnetite content using electrical impedance spectroscopy, are currently being developed into commercial applications.
