Technology Development for CO2 Capture, Utilization & Storage (CCUS) in China

CO2 Capture, Utilization & Storage (CCUS) is a basic strategy to reduce CO2 emissions in China. Both National and Provincial Governments pay attention to CCUS , Companies such as China Huaneng Group, CNPC Group, Sinopec Group and Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group, Research institutes and Universities including Chinese Science Academy, Hunan University, China Petroleum University and Tsinghua University et al are all working together for existing CCUS Projects. The fundamental research, Pilot test and demonstration projects have deployed in China for fifteen years. For example, demonstration project of Post-combustion CO2 Capture for 120k ton CO2 per year has been operating in Huaneng Shanghai since the year of 2010. Joint international center for CO2 capture, Utilization and Storage (iCCS) was set up in 2009, which mainly works on academic research and technology development for CO2 capture using chemical solvents, as well as for CO2-EOR. At the same time, China is Calling for advanced technologies and international cooperation in the field of CCUS and Clean Energy.
