A project entitled, "A Novel Concept of Converting Carbon Dioxde Gas into Useful Products," (PI, BK Parekh) has been selected for an award from the Kentucky Science Engineering Foundation, pending negotiation of the budget and execution of an award agreement between the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation (KSTC) and UK.

This was a highly competitive round in which 141 proposals were received with a total budget request of over $12 Million. Dr. Parekh's award was one of only 16 proposals selected for funding.

Jim Hower and Jen O'Keefe of the CAER's Applied Petrology Laboratory both recently received accreditation in vitrinite reflectance analysis and in maceral identification from the International Committee for Coal and Organic Petrology (ICCP). This is an on-going activity of the ICCP. "The ICCP organizes accreditation exercises through which individual petrographers can be granted ICCP Accreditation in the techniques of petrographic analyses. Accreditation is granted only to petrographers who participate in and pass one of the periodic exercises." .

For Jim, this is a renewal of the accreditation. For Jen, a PhD student at the University of Kentucky and an instructor at Morehead State University, this is the first time that she has applied for accreditation and been tested. In both cases, accreditation is valid through the end of 2008.
