The CAER is happy to announce the recent hiring of three new employees. Adam Poole will be working with the Clean Fuels and Chemicals Group. Shelly Hopps is a chemist with the analytical services group. And Mark Warren is working for the new PowerGen Group. We welcome them all to the lab.

CAER Acting Director Rodney Andrews was interviewed recently on WEKU regarding Kentucky coal. Specifically, he was asked to respond to a new MIT study that indicates demand for Kentucky coal could climbafter power producers control carbon dioxide emissions. Listen to that interview.

For the second time in four months, Dr. Burt Davis was featured in one of the state's television newscasts. The feature was on coal-to-liquids technology and its impact on Kentucky. The story was broadast by WKYT on February 16th.

A new short course offering entitled “Pollution Control in Power Plants” will be offered in the Fall of 2007. CAER experts and members of industry have pooled their talents to offer a half-day course for power plant engineers, regulators, and anyone working in industries with heavy energy consumption. The course will focus on carbon emissions and its mitigation, control technologies, and real world problem solving. This course also offers Professional Development Credits. Dr. Rui Xiao is a visiting scientist from China, who will be doing research at the CAER for one year. He is a professor at the South East University in China, where he is a chemical engineer. He will be working in the Power Generation and Utility Fuels Group.
