Following up on a suggestion received at the CAER/EEC day, regional field officer Greg Copley coordinated a mine tour for two Department of Energy Development and Independence staff and a summer intern. Licking Valley Resources VP Chris Lacy took Copley and the EEC staff to the company’s operations in Magoffin County. The group toured two operating surface mines and related reclamation projects as well as a deep mine entrance and outside support operations. After the tour EEC Program Manager Aron Patrick said,“The trip brought our team’s energy databases to life.” In addition to the mines, a tour of the company’s coal-washing plant was provided and Mr. Patrick indicated the conversations with Chris Lacy on economic impacts are a benefit to his efforts.
