The Computing and Informational Services group is responsible for the CAER's information processing equipment and operations, including: telephones, faxes, mini-computers, photo-copiers, microcomputer and software support. The group maintains integrated AppleTalk and Ethernet networks. The staff also provides software and hardware support to virtually all areas of the lab, both research and administrative.
The group also maintains the Center's coal quality database. The Kentucky Coal Marketing Information System (KCMIS) provides industry, government, consulting firms and researchers with information on the quality and reserves of Kentucky coal. Staff also support the Mine Map Information Center, in cooperation with the Kentucky Department of Mines and Minerals and the Kentucky Geological Survey.
